Sherri CothrunBorn and raised in Arizona, Sherri graduated from New Mexico State University with a B.A. in psychology and political science. She came to Houston, Texas after graduation from Pepperdine School of Law in 1981. She is Board Certified in Family Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and is licensed to practice before all Texas courts.

Sherri is a member and active participant in several professional organizations including the State Bar of Texas, the Houston Bar Association, the Fort Bend County Bar Association, and the Texas Academy of Family Law Specialists. Sherri is the past President of the Gulf Coast Family Law Specialists and Team leader of the Burta Rhodes Raborn Family Law Inns of Court.  Sherri became a trained mediator of family law cases in 1991 and has devoted a majority of her practice to helping litigated families resolve their cases through mediation.

The author of several articles and frequent speaker at continuing legal education seminars and guest lecturer at South Texas School of Law, Sherri is recognized for her expertise in mediation and judicial by pass proceedings. She has been voted a Top Lawyer for the People by HTexas magazine 2008.

Sherri is also committed to the community of Houston by serving on the Board of Directors of Planned Parenthood C4 Board, The Center for the Healing of Racism, Jane’s Due Process and TARAL as well as a volunteer on many local efforts that serve the families of Houston, Texas.

As a stepmother of two sons, Sherri understands the dynamics of blended families and the special issues surrounding step parenting. Her personal and educational backgrounds give her unique ability to effectively mediate issues involving child custody.
