Collaborative Law
Collaborative law is a relatively new way in Texas of resolving issues in family law outside the litigation process. Clients and their lawyers commit to resolve the issues of property division and the issues involving their children by problem solving and negotiation in a spirit of mutual interest and cooperation.
Professionals such as financial planners and mental health providers can be brought into the process to help the parties make decisions in their case. It is a promising way to amicably resolve divorce issues and maintain the ability to co-parent after divorce by keeping the adversarial positioning to a minimum.
Our attorneys at Cothrun & Lucido are trained in the collaborative law process in which a series of meetings with the parties and their attorneys are conducted, with each meeting having a specific agenda to resolve a part of the property or children issues.
